About Us

After working with some of the best-known consumer products companies (Gillette, Kellogg Company, Wilson Sporting Goods) and corporate brands (Searle Pharmaceuticals, Goldman Sachs) in the United States, Donald Burg founded Tugboat Design in 1999 to provide creative services and consulting to companies and nonprofit organizations. The firm's clients have included The Timberland Company, Applegate Farms, Ben & Jerry's, SMIRNOFF, P&G Prestige Products, The Gillette Companies, Ocean Spray, and Stonyfield Farm. The firm's nonprofit clients have included Clean Air-Cool Planet, Lumina Foundation for Education, Partnership for Prevention, Global Rights, Medical and Health Research Association of New York City and New York University.

Donald has chosen to base Tugboat Design in New York City, where he has spent the bulk his professional career, because he loves the abundance of visual stimuli and the non-stop competition for attention. In his view, city living, combined with regular travel to provide new inspirations and ideas, has been integral to forming his ability to design effectively for a wide range of clients and needs. With an extraordinary attention to detail, this multi-disciplined designer is eager to go 'above and beyond' to solve any sort of design assignment. In addition to Donald's graphic design work, he is currently developing a proprietary consumer product through Tugboat Design.

As needed by his clients, Donald draws upon a considerable network of top communications professionals in New York and across the country to provide complementary services as part of an integrated Tugboat Design team. To deliver smart design, he maintains close working relationships with web programmers and developers, photographers, illustrators and quality printers. Professional consultants in the public relations and corporate communications fields continually partner with and refer Tugboat Design to their clients and colleagues.

Donald frequently collaborates with , a communications agency based in New York City and Paris.

Donald's bulldog, a sweet little girl, Pearl, serves as office manager and company mascot providing comic relief. She attends office meetings, functions and parties (provided refreshments are served).
